Classical Christian Education
The old that is strong does not whither.
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Jeremiah 6:16
Greenleaf Friends Academy was founded in 1908 by the same group of Friends (Quakers) who founded the community of Greenleaf. Located in the beautiful Treasure Valley only 8 miles west of Caldwell, the Academy has grown over the past century from a one-room schoolhouse into a beautiful campus with tree-lined sidewalks and a quiet, community feel. For over a century GFA has continued to look back to its rich history and traditions to provide a classical Christian education that equips students to navigate the present while preparing them for a flourishing life in the future.
Classical Christian education is the form of education built upon eternal truths that produced the world in which we live. There are at least four principal parts of a classical Christian education that make it distinct from other forms of education: first, it has a distinct purpose or telos; second, it works with the natural developmental stages of a student by focusing on the trivium, the first three of the seven liberal arts; third, it has particular methods and habits that correspond to the trivium and support the telos; and finally, it maintains the classical Christian curriculum that formed the bedrock of education in western civilization for over two millennia.
